Huckleberry Season

There they are. The little gems that we head out to get each Fall season so that Taylor can make a delicious pie for one of the holidays. For those of you who haven't picked this small, delightful berries, it's kinda a pain in the ass. But well worth it. In about an hour and a half today I managed to pick maybe 2 1/2 cups. Just shy of a pies worth. Fortunately, my friends with me were willing to share a bit of their pickings.
Little Bjorn was a gem out in the huckeberry patches helping his dad; Eric, with the process.

We've got a great spot that doesn't seem to fail us. This year was a little better than last. The berries were a bit bigger. Yeti found his way to the lake all by himself in the boredom of waiting for the peeps to finish up. Cabot Lake is maybe a 1/4 mile from where we were picking. Yeti is so darned used to the place after 4 years of going there, that he didn't need to wait for the damned slow humans.

I can't wait for Taylor to actually be home to cook this darn pie that I worked so hard for. We don't have many traditions so this is one that I treasure.

Happy fall to everyone, it's just around the corner. Grab the last days of summer and enjoy.
